Knicks Sign Jordan Clarkson
Jordan Clarkson wasn’t a free agent until around noon on Monday when the Utah Jazz bought out the final year of his contract. The New York Knicks immediately showed interest and made the signing official later last night.
While the Knicks have access to the taxpayer mid-level exception, they were able to sign Clarkson to a veteran’s minimum contract, maintaining flexibility for future signings this summer before hitting the second apron.
The 6’3 guard averaged 16.2 points and shot 36.2 percent from three in 37 games for the Jazz last season. A former Sixth Man of the Year award winner in 2021, Clarkson can provide a much-needed offensive spark off the bench for a Knicks team that generally over-relied on Jalen Brunson to generate good looks.
Many fans will question his decision-making, shot selection, and defensive play—especially considering the Jazz won 48 games total in the last two seasons—but the low price could make this a low-risk, high-reward deal.
Even still, his future role and chemistry with Deuce McBride, Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and other key players remain to be seen.
