The New York Knicks defeated the Detroit Pistons 118-116, winning on the road and taking a 2-1 lead in their round one series.
The Pistons tried to establish a physical presence again, but the Knicks responded this time. New York hit back, drew fouls, and got production throughout the rotation. While the Pistons clung to Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, other players got open looks to catch rhythm. The Knicks controlled the first half, ending with a 13-point lead.
But the Pistons kept fighting back. They ate into New York’s lead in the third quarter and took a lead in the fourth. Yet the Knicks’ Captain, fresh off his Clutch Player of the Year award, came through with key buckets to take the lead.
The game was chippy with multiple technical fouls, and a strange mishap from the scorer’s table that gave Detroit an extra opportunity to win. But the Knicks held on and took a series lead.
Let’s look at the contributions that led to this crucial victory.
