New York Knicks beat the Orlando Magic 121-106: Making a statement

A decisive NBA Cup win puts the Knicks one step closer to Vegas.

The New York Knicks crushed the Orlando Magic 121-106, advancing to the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup. New York’s vaunted offense overcame the Magic’s elite defense, and Orlando never stood a chance.

The game was briefly competitive, as Orlando hit three consecutive threes to start the night. But Jalen Brunson quickly sapped the Magic’s confidence with early scoring and playmaking. The Knicks kicked into gear and forced a track meet.

New York took a 20-point lead in the second quarter and didn’t let go of momentum. They pushed the lead to 38 points at one point, earning the starters extra rest despite the point differential mattering.

This is one of New York’s best wins thus far. The Knicks steamrolled one of the NBA’s best defenses and made a statement to the rest of the Eastern Conference. Let’s look at the individual performances.

Notable Performances

New York’s stars take momentum

Karl-Anthony Towns: 23 PTS (8/18 FG, 2/5 3PT, 5/5 FT), 15 REB, 2 BLK, 5 TO in 36 mins

When Jericho Sims went to check in during the first quarter, Karl-Anthony Towns waved to him, asking for one more play. In that extra play, Towns set a strong screen and rolled to the basket for an emphatic jam. That’s a good indication of KAT’s intensity throughout this game.
