The New York Knicks took the Boston Celtics to the brink but lost in overtime 119-117. The close battle is a significant improvement over New York’s blowout losses to the top-three teams, but they failed to get over the hump.
The Knicks started the game brilliantly. Karl-Anthony Towns attacked the interior while the Knicks’ defense held firm. But Kristaps Porzingis exploded from three in the third quarter, and Jayson Tatum hit tough shots throughout the fourth. The Knicks fought back with a run, even taking the lead in the final seconds of regulation. But Tatum hit a game-tying three to force OT.
Boston took the lead in overtime, and while New York stayed on their heels, the Celtics made enough big shots to stave off the Knicks. One or two breaks could have been the difference in this game. Let’s look at the performances that nearly claimed victory for New York.
