Knicks Sign Guerschon Yabusele
Yesterday morning, the New York Knicks used their $5.6 million mid-level exception to sign forward Guerschon Yabusele to a two-year, $12 million contract. Yabusele, fresh off a season with the Philadelphia 76ers, brings a dynamic mix of skills and hard-earned experience that could instantly boost the Knicks’ frontcourt.
Yabusele is a strong, physical forward who brings versatility at both the power forward and center spots. Listed at 260 pounds, he’s known for his ability to stretch the floor, attack the rim with explosive dunks, and inject energy into a second unit. With the Sixers last season, he averaged 11 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, shooting 50.1% from the field, 38% from three, and 72.5% from the free throw line.
Although Yabusele played a full NBA season in 2024–25, his journey has been far from traditional. He began his NBA career with the Boston Celtics, appearing in limited action from 2017 to 2019. Struggling to find a consistent role in a crowded frontcourt, the Celtics ultimately waived him in 2019. Rather than fighting for a fringe NBA spot, Yabusele chose to head overseas. That decision completely reshaped his career.
He played one season in China with the Nanjing Monkey Kings, where he showcased his scoring ability. From there, he returned to France to join ASVEL Basket, owned by Tony Parker, and then signed with European powerhouse Real Madrid. During his time overseas, Yabusele won a EuroLeague championship, competed at the highest level outside the NBA, and became a more complete player. He refined his body, expanded his game, and regained the confidence that once made him a first-round pick.
Now back in the NBA, Yabusele joins a Knicks team looking to contend in a loaded Eastern Conference. His fit is natural. A floor-spacing big with physicality and energy is exactly what New York’s second unit needs. Depending on how the new coaching staff shapes the rotation, Yabusele could become a valuable contributor as the team eyes another deep postseason run.
The next chapter of Guerschon Yabusele’s basketball journey begins at Madison Square Garden, and the Knicks are betting on it being his best yet.
